Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint

Your carbon footprint is a gauge of your CO2 emissions or the impact your activities have on the environment measured in carbon emissions. Your carbon footprint is measured in units, tonnes or kg of CO2. Our carbon footprint is mainly produced through burning fossil fuels for heating and transportation, but also in the production and shipping. We can reduce our carbon footprints with carbon offsetting.

A carbon footprint is made up of two parts: your direct carbon footprint, the things you do directly like drive a car , and your indirect carbon footprint, things like the energy used in shipping goods to your home.

1. The direct carbon footprint is a measure of our direct emissions of CO2 from the burning of fossil fuels including domestic energy consumption and transportation (e.g. car and plane). We have direct control of these. These are easy for you to change immediately by cycling, car sharing or taking holidays at home. You can offsett your carbon footprint with carbon credits.

2. The indirect carbon footprint is a measure of the indirect CO2 emissions from the whole lifecycle of products we use – these are generally associated with their manufacture and eventual disposal. We can offset these by changing suppliers, reducing how much we buy or carbon credits.

Carbon footprint of Easter Eggs?

Posted by admin on Mar-21-2010

Someone bought me a big Cadbury Flake theme egg (you can get Mars, Snickers, Manchester United, even Harry Potter themed eggs).

I was amazed at the amount of packaging!

The egg was wrapped in coloured foil, placed in a plastic container (also housing a pack of 3 wrapped flakes) and all wrapped in themed cardboard.

These supermarkets bang on about being green.

. . . when it suits them!

Should "Easter" be re-named "Eater"?

Some offer them with reduced packaging, because they know they will sell, Cadbury say this has saved 2000 trees.

So, here we are 2000+ years since the Son of Man died on a tree to save man and man is introducing Easter to the kids by trying to save trees.

Your thoughts?

Al "Big Foot" Gore.

It kind of has a nice ring to it!
Nice try Smorgen, but your "source" leaves out some very important points.

First, the Gore’s have only been purchasing "green energy credits" at a rate of .00/unit/month from the utility since November, 2006.

Second, the Gore’s are presently "remodeling" their home to accomodate solar panels.

I thought Al had been eco-friendly for over three decades!

I think we’ll stick with "Big Foot". You know what they say, "If the shoe fits…"

I have 3 turtles living in a very large tank with a basking area made by my self and it look very natural for them to live in, they get normal as possible light hours off at night and on in the day they are very happy. My question is the male turtle is now doing the mating dance with one of my female turtles, will they reproduce in this environment ? and how will this occur if at all ?
