Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint

Archive for March 1st, 2010

I am a scientist working in an academic environment. People are pretty low key here (they wear jeans). But I like to look nice without looking over made up. Any suggestions on what makeup essentials/ look I should use? (I am blonde and fair skinned, and tend to wear nice jeans paired with nice shirts/sweaters to work). I want to look nice but I also want to be taken seriously.

The carbon footprint of agriculture?

I been thinking about those really large tractors they use to harvest with….

They have to really eat through a lot of fuel. Why haven’t we come up with more efficient farming methods or machines. What about hybrid tractors?.

More growing in greenhouses or something you think we come up with a method to grow plants like we make things in factories.

Perhaps, it is beneficial for some farmers to hire people (who need jobs) than wasting money to fuel a gas guzzler.

Any suggestions?

Australia’s coal conundrum - 12 Sep 09

Posted by admin on Mar-1-2010

Australia is the world’s biggest exporter and fourth biggest producer of coal, but its rich mineral wealth has had a serious impact on the environment. The coal industry has made Australians the world’s biggest carbon dioxide emitters per person ahead of the US. Now the industry, which is the bedrock of the country’s industrial and economic success, says it is under threat as the government strives to introduce measures to reduce carbon emissions in the fight against climate change. Labour unions have warned that the industry will have to slash production leading to the loss of as many as 25000 jobs. But environmental campaigners say that Australia has a moral responsibilty to change. Al Jazeera’s Tony Birtley reports from Newcastle, on Australia’s south east coast, home to the country’s coal industry.
