I have 3 turtles living in a very large tank with a basking area made by my self and it look very natural for them to live in, they get normal as possible light hours off at night and on in the day they are very happy. My question is the male turtle is now doing the mating dance with one of my female turtles, will they reproduce in this environment ? and how will this occur if at all ?

  1. j m Said,

as long as you have amke and female then yes as long as temps are correct, husbandry is good and care feeding etc is good then yes. he will do the mating dance then eventually he will bite the back of her neck, wrap his nails into the female shell area and well the rest could be offensive lol.

then after she is ready she will lay the eggs you must provide an area for her to lay to prevent her from becoming egg bound

In theory, yes. In practice, you have to give the female easy access to a container of barely damp sand or potting soil. The easy way is to have a ramp leading over the end of the tank to a box with the soil. Insure that the turtle can go from tank to box to tank and nowhere else.
