What is the effect of using lignite as a form of electricity on the environment?

Its the same as coal burning. Lots of CO2 into the atmosphere, lots of particulate emissions, lots of mining "footprint" ( because most lignite is made available by opencast mining ).
And its non renewable. If there is any choice the stuff should be left in the ground - perhaps used in small amounts as chemical feedstock. But to convert into electricity, when so much non CO2 renewable sources are available???? The only excuse is that the stuff is cheap - are we to crucify the planet because we are a cheap species?
Lignite = Non renewable.
It effects the environment !
As long as anything is renewable I would say it’s good for our planet !
